Import contacts from a CSV
Add a spreadsheet of contacts to one of your project's lists — what the file needs, where the contacts go, and how you hear when it's done.
You can bring an existing contact list into NevarMail by importing a CSV file into one of your project's lists. The import runs in the background, so large files don't tie up your browser.
What the file needs
- A header row with an
emailcolumn. Files without one are refused before anything is imported. - Optional
first_nameandlast_namecolumns. Any other columns are kept on the contact as extra fields. - A
.csvfile of 50 MB or less.
Run an import
- Open your project and go to Lists.
- Click Import CSV.
- Under Destination list, type a list name:
- A name no list in this project uses creates a new list.
- The name of an existing list adds the contacts to it. Addresses already on the list are counted as already there, not added twice.
- Leave Email me when it's done checked if you want a summary email when the import finishes.
- Choose your file. NevarMail shows a preview of the first rows with a count of valid rows and rows with problems.
- Click Process Import. When it finishes you'll see how many contacts were imported, rejected, or skipped as duplicates.
Where imported contacts are stored
Imported contacts are stored with the list in NevarMail. You can't import into a list whose contacts are kept on your sending provider's account. Manage those lists on the provider instead, or import into a separate list.
The completion email
If you asked to be emailed, the summary goes to the address on your NevarMail account. It has the same counts you see on screen: rows processed, imported, already on the list, duplicates, and rejected.
Set up a “from” address
Set up the addresses you send from, and understand when a provider identity is not eligible to send.
Why didn't my email send?
The most common cause is test mode blocking an unlisted recipient — here's how to tell, plus every other condition that can block a send and what each one looks like in the response.
